Adults Bible Study

Topics for November 2008

The Adult Bible Study meets each Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM in the Lounge.   We are beginning a Disciple series on the book of Psalms, using both a booklet and a video.

In the Psalms, the grand promise of the reign of God meets the historical experience of God’s people.  The people’s faith in God’s faithfulness and their trust in God’s providential care collide with their ongoing experience of pain and suffering, enslavement, oppression, exile, the consequences of humanity’s evil, and the consequences of nature’s disregard for life.  The struggle of God’s people to make sense of who God is and who they are causes the writers of Psalms to praise God for God’s faithfulness and lament God’s apparent absences.  They thank God for God’s goodness and complain that God neglects them.  They cast their cares upon God in hope and confess terrible dread for the future.  And in so doing, they have left behind texts of grace, glory and sorrow unmatched in sacred literature.

The schedule for November is as follows:

November 11: The Prayer Book of God’s People
