”To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours…” 2 Peter 1:1

Culture is made up of choices, but not all choices are the same. On the one hand, the choices of someone with influence or authority can affect many more people. We clearly see the negative effect of those choices on culture. But we often miss the effect of good choices together.

Good choices affect culture differently than bad choices.  God works through moral excellence differently than moral failure.  Moral excellence means living up to our potential. Those who are in Christ have greater potential for good than those who are not in Christ.

Christians’ choices affect culture more than non-Christians’ choices.

But this doesn’t seem to be the case. Otherwise, why would our culture be in the shape it is? There is something missing which is this:

Our choices as Christians to be able to change culture for the good, but we must make them together with other Christians.

If we are “in Christ” we are united with every other person who is “in Christ.” God’s purpose will be accomplished by what he can do collectively through us. But we have to make “us” more important than “me.” (Read more at RedemptiveLeader.com)

At the beginning of this letter, Peter tells us our faith is “of equal standing” to Apostles like him (2 Pet. 1:1). This faith does not come from our strength or our efforts. Rather it is “by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet. 1:1).

Our faith is equal to the Apostles because of what Christ did, not because of what we can do.

The apostles certainly changed culture. God used their message to change history and shape the world as we know it. Our faith is of equal standing to theirs. God can change culture through us as he did through them.

But we have to understand how to do this work together.
